Tinder is famous for harboring people who are not what they pretend to be – and some of them might be looking for a hookup, but others may have even more malicious plans. Here’s the story of the recent Tinder scam.
The Tinder Scam
In a recent tinder scam, two scammers have used Tinder as a tool to swindle heaps of victims out of millions in their cunning deceit. Local authorities reported that the scheming took place in the period between 2014 and 2016, claiming almost 30 victims in the process.
The criminals apparently posed as Thai Airways flight attendants to fool men into giving them money. Unlike the usual swindles, the scammers took their time in building up a relationship with their victims before asking for favors.
One of the deceived individuals told police that he regularly chatted and kept in touch with them. The once who he thought to be a ‘air hostess’ and all of their communication took place online. Anytime he would ask for a meeting, it was declined.
One day, the posers reached out to the man asking him for a small loan. The victim proceeded to transfer her 15,000 baht (approximately $435) and eventually all of their communication ceased after that.
This ultimately led the man to share the story with his friends, who advised him to contact local authorities.

The scammers have managed to stay under the radar since so long. The search for the men involved in this tinder scam is still on.
One of the stewardesses, whose photos the con men used, said she has been charged with fraud despite having no involvement in the case. The woman further added that this tinder scam has stained her reputation. And also has put her career at risk as she is currently facing disciplinary punishment.
Police have narrowed down their investigation to two men, but is still searching the outskirts of Bangkok for the culprits of this hyped up tinder scam. The scammers have used photos of at least three different flight attendants to pull off their deceitful initiatives.
