Healing Emotional Pain

(Healing emotional pain) Emotional pain lasts for only 12 -20 minutes, anything longer is self-inflicted and makes things worse.

How many times do you find yourself thinking about your best friend’s deeds or words that left you so disheartened? Have you have faced real hard times that you collapse into yourself and cry your heart out because you were tired being so strong? Have you had consoled yourself, standing in front of the mirror, found yourself in bed, not wanting to get out because you are left broken, thinking about every damn thing that happened to you? How many times have all these things bothered you so much?

Going through such scenarios is common at some point(s) of life. We all face ups and downs. Pain is also an important and complex emotion life offers to us, because it teaches us to be stronger, smarter and wiser than before. The human mind has the tendency to think about 50,000 – 70,000 thoughts per day which make 35 -48 thoughts per minute per person. Out of which 80% of thoughts are negative and 95% are repetitive. Ever thought of that before?

“We suffer more in our imagination than in reality.” Worrying about anything never really helps. Never! The first step in healing emotional pain is to stop ‘overthinking’, ‘brooding over the past’ and ‘stop being anxious about the future’. Also, one should stop comparing oneself to others. This way, you are insulting yourself. Embrace your uniqueness. Thinking you are worthless will only exaggerate the torment and obviously give rise to affliction. You need to break free, then you not only break the shackles, but also you gain a new refreshing energy and freedom. We are often caught in the continuous cycle or loop of thinking about the same thing over and over again. Break it.

“Let me sleep” requested frustrated me to the brain. “No, let’s stay awake and think about every time you have failed.” replied the brain. Now, tell your brain a big No! After all, your mental peace is important, right? Divert your mind, there is always something worth chasing for. Find your own ways.

Healing emotional pain: What can you do?

     1. Have a ‘worry time’:

“I’ve had a lot of worries in my life, most of which never happened.” – Mark Twain

Thinking isn’t bad at all but over thinking and worrying is. Thinking evolves clarity of thoughts and actions. Schedule a ‘worry time.’ Take 15- 20 minutes every day or more preferably before going to bed, sit in silence and think about what all mistakes you did, and what should be your future actions to improve them all.

    2. Meditation/ yoga/ prayers:

Prayers have done wonders for me. Enchanting Gayatri mantra helps cleanse your mind and give way to your thoughts. Meditation is also always a very enthralling habit you can instill in yourself as early as possible to live a happy balanced life. Meditation allows people to take charge of their nervous system and emotions. It has the power to regulate emotions in the brain. “To a mind that is still, the whole universe surrenders.” Thus, yoga, prayers, and meditation are one of the best ways of healing emotional pain.

    3. Write it down:

Write it down

Writing your emotions down can be another way of healing emotional pain. Whatever is troubling you, take pen and paper and just jot it down. Making time to write your goals and mental clutter clears your mind to higher level thinking. It is similar to talking to a friend. When you have clear goals, you can make better decisions.
