As we celebrate the end of 2018 it feels like it just started yesterday and now it’s ending. But the fact is that year-end is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on. 2018 had been a momentous and venturesome year with a lot of ups and downs. There are many big things that happened in 2018 worldwide. The year was marked by many big affairs and happenings across the globe.
So, let’s take a look at a few of the big things that happened in 2018!

The whole world is well aware of the humanitarian crisis in Iraq due to the horrific terror attacks by the ISIS( Islamic States of Iraq and Syria). The Republic of Iraq was completely destroyed by the ISIS but on 12th May 2018, one of the big things that happened in 2018, the state witnessed its first parliamentary election after defeating of ISIS. The elections will decide the future of the state and will help in restoring peace in the war-battered Iraq. These elections turned out to be a revolutionary happening of 2018.
3. ROYAL WEDDING
The year 2018 witnessed one of the much-awaited Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The wedding bells were heard across the world and it was one of the most talked about big things that happened in 2018. 4. FOOTBALL WORLD CUP
When it comes to sports, one of the big things that happened in 2018 was the FIFA WORLD CUP. The 21st FIFA WORLD CUP 2018 took place in Russia from 14 June to 15 July 2018. This was the first world cup held in Eastern Europe and the finals involved 32 countries and it was also the first time when Video Assistant Referee(VAR) system was used in a tournament. The final match took place between France and Croatia in Luzhniki Stadium, Moscow. France won the world cup by 4-2 to claim their 2nd world cup title
5. DEATH OF STEPHEN HAWKING
The year has also seen some unfortunate and heart-rending events, one of which was the death of the brightest star in the azure of science-Stephen Hawking. He died on 14th March 2018 at the age of 76 in his home in Cambridge. Hawking was suffering from Motor Neuron Disease which gradually paralyzed him over a decade. He battled with the disease for at least 50 years. Hawking is well known for his prediction that Black Holes emit radiation, also known as Hawking Radiation. He had worked extensively in the field of cosmology and always insisted, “And however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do, and succeed at. It matters that you DON’T JUST GIVE UP”. Thus, Hawking’s death was one of the big things that happened in 2018.
